View Bug #200

Summary: Apache fails silently with mod_perl DSO (shared object) on Linux

Difficulty: 1    Version goal: Never    Version released: 1.29_01
Status: Released
Version found: Ongoing    Severity: Minor

Description
Not a Mason bug, but affects many new users. Some recent Linux distributions come built with a mod_perl DSO (shared object) that simply doesn't work. If you try to use it with Mason or much simpler PerlHandlers, your Apache server will die silently with no error in the logs and sometimes a core dump.

To remedy this, recompile mod_perl statically and rebuild Apache with it. You can find pre-built RPMs with static mod_perl on the net.
